Matilda (Live home demo)

from Lockdown Sessions for Rianne by Girl From Winter Jargon

/

about

'Matilda' is a song loosely inspired by the teacher/pupil dynamic found between Matilda and Miss Honey in the children's book written by Roald Dahl.

lyrics

She came to my house to talk to my parents.
I'd never known love before she fought my corner.
She said that I was a magnificent child.
I knew that she needed me.
I knew that she needed me.

I will move walls and overturn tables.
I don't even need you to believe I am able.

The teacher will come when the pupil's dilated.
But she didn't believe me.
She did didn't believe that I would claim your inheritance back,
and make the badness dissappear.
She didn't believe me.
She didn't believe me.

I will move walls and overturn tables.
A nettle at the stalk to trample and disable.
I'll harness the pain and channel the hatred.
I'll empty all of myself to be liberated.

If they dare touch a hair on your head,
I'll rain down fire and sulphur.
The mentor arrives when the student is ready.
The teacher will come when the pup's dilated.
