Violin Hickey was written after watching a live orchestra perform Carmina Burana by Carl Orff at The Sage in Gateshead, UK.

It's a song about social ranking; a triangle player falling in love with a concert master violinist.

I play the triangle.
You play first violin.
I'm always practicing.
I want to earn my place next to where you're sitting.
I want to smell the rosin.
I want to watch you bow.
I'm practicing my scales... and my pizzicato.

I would do anything, concert master.
I just want to play beside you in the orchestra.
My angles are never quite touching.
And I just want to be close to you.

I'm getting better everyday.
I don't mind if you don't know.
Percussion blocks my view of you.
I want to get so close.
I want to see your frog.
I want to touch your scroll... to compare violin hickeys,
and peer through your F hole.

I'm sick of being the butt of one-liners and jokes.
